Had a blast
Kell’s Irish Pub
Built in 1889, the seemingly innocent, family-friendly Kell’s Irish Pub isn’t just famous for its drinks; it’s known for its ghostly encounters, too. Erected directly on a network of underground tunnels where violent crimes and all sorts of nefarious activities thrived back in the day, this pub now harbors a dark and haunted history, including the ghost of a firefighter who died heroically in a 1911 blaze that continues to intrigue and spook visitors to this day.
Shanghai Tunnels
Beneath the city of Portland lies the infamous Shanghai Tunnels, a network of tunnels steeped in a history of vice and villainy, where kidnapped souls were ensnared in a web of forced labor and illicit trade. Today, echoes of their anguish haunt these subterranean passages, with tales of kidnapped sailors and lost crew of the ill-fated Jennifer Jo still wander about in search of redemption from their tragic fate.
Old Town Pizza
Housed in the old Merchant Hotel building, Old Town Pizza, one of the few remaining examples of classical Victorian Italianate, cast iron architecture on the West Coast, boasts more than just delicious pies. Local lore says the spirit of Nina, a former resident who tragically passed away in a fire accident, still lingers within its historic walls.
Founded in the mid-19th century, Portland has long been known as a hard-edged and gritty port town. The city’s early years were marked by the challenges of a booming frontier community, with harsh living conditions and labor strife. These early struggles echo through Stumptown’s history, shaping its character as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world.
The influx of tired miners, loggers, and hopeful adventurers looking to start a new life brought promise, but for many, it also brought exploitation, violence, and human trafficking. As the population swelled, so did the darker aspects of the city, with underground networks of crime flourishing amidst the chaos of the frontier. Portland soon became a hub for nefarious activities, with brothels, opium dens, and gambling parlors lining the streets, catering to the vices of the weary and the desperate.
The deadly fire in 1975 that took the lives of a dozen people would only add fuel to the fire of the city’s seedy underbelly, leaving behind a trail of grief, sorrow, inexplicable events, and restless spirits of forgotten souls who once called Portland home.
Portland may have transformed from a quiet wilderness outpost to a bustling cultural and economic hub. But traces of its rough-and-tumble past can still be found in some of the most popular landmarks. From the ghostly echoes of lost souls at McMenamin’s Edgefield to the eerie whispers among the tombstones of Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, the ghosts of Portland’s history refuse to rest.
Even the opulent halls of Pittock Mansion in Portland hold dark secrets, while the Willamette River Ghost Ship drifts silently, its spectral crew forever lost in the mists of time. Walk with Portland Ghosts through some of the spookiest spots in Portland and hear the terrifying tales of restless spirits forever trapped in the city’s dark past.
There is so much that makes Portland a fashionable tourist attraction with its array of locally-owned breweries being one of ... the tops. The craft beers that these famed breweries produce are reason alone to put Portland on your bucket list of places to visit. But even the biggest beer lover needs a time-out once in a while.
If the breweries are what brought you here but you need a way to burn off your day of sampling, a stroll with Portland Ghost Tours is a great way to do it! What better way to work off some craft beer than with some in-person ghost stories and visits to the locations in which they happened?
Being known for its delicious breweries, it comes as no surprise that coffee is another big staple of Portland. Big-name bran ... ds are great but nothing compares to homegrown beans ground with love that can only come from a local owner.
After you’ve had your fill of coffee, burn off the excess energy with a fact-based ghost tour. The caffeine may get you going but the adrenaline rush you’ll experience from true and terrifying stories of the dead is something you won’t find in a coffee shop. And this rush won’t leave you any time soon.

There’s only one place to learn about them, and that’s with Portland Ghost Tours.
